"The Managing Government Records Directive, released in August of 2012 by the acting director
of the Office of Management and Budget and the Archivist of the United States, sets two
ambitious goals for Federal agencies. First, agencies are required to implement electronic
recordkeeping to ensure transparency, efficiency, and accountability and, second, agencies must
demonstrate compliance with Federal records management statutes and
regulations. Additionally, by the end of 2016, agencies must manage all email records in an
electronic format, and, by the end of 2019, agencies must, to the fullest extent possible, manage
all permanent electronic records in an electronic format. [...] "
